My audio menu options on the cable box are PCM or Dolby digital AC3. If I select Dolby, I set the receiver to "straight" or "pure direct". If choosing PCM, I set the receiver to "surround decode" and it diplays "Pro Logic", for example. I then get 5.1 sound, vocals to the center, etc.

Which would be the better way to leave it?

Thanks again!
I would run the HDMI through the the receiver and also run component & R/L audio from the cable STB directly to the TV, then you can have the best of both worlds.

Happy Thanksgiving!
