I have the same model television.

Sony KF42WE610

I've had problems with this television for 2 years. First, the optical block got dust on it, creating spots all over the screen. Then, a month after an extended warranty (for the optical block) expired,(June/08) there was a blue haze that started creeping in on the top of the screen. BSOD!

Fortunately, if you choose to look at it this way...

Sony recently issued an extended warranty for a warped lamp access door that extends until April/09. My door was melted, and the inside of the housing was as well. I contacted Sony and they issued an e-ticket. An authorized repair person was here today, and called this afternoon to report that the parts are no longer available to fix this issue. Sony will be contacting me in a few days to negotiate a replacement. I've read at least two other accounts of this problem and how Sony offered very little initially, but caved after the threat of making the experience public by documenting the frustration on various forums. In both cases, a credit of ~$1500 towards a new set was offered. I expect at least the same, having paid $2500 four years ago, and having less than two years of good operation.

Check your lamp access door! You may be eligible for a credit.

Good luck.
