I went through a similar problem with my cable a while back (which led me to fire Time Warner for the rest of my life). They couldn't figure out what was wrong with the picture after running a billion tests.
Turns out it was my component cables being old and cheaply made. I replaced them with different cables, and the problem went away. I'm not saying it'll fix your problem, but if it doesn't, you can always return the new component cables & it will cost you nothing.
I think it's worth a shot rather than returning the TV. That would be a hassle!
