Where am I missing something?

Samsung HT-TZ512T Home Theater System
Based on your report and that it worked with the KOSS, I would say your Samsung HT system doesn't accept Dolby Digital at 640Kbps. Every bluray I have played has the DD5.1 track at 640Kbps where DVD only allowed 448Kbps DD sound tracks. OTA/Cable/Sat TV and laser disc uses 384Kbps DD sound tracks.

If you run your PS3 via optical to your KOSS and try a DTS bluray movie or a put a standard DVD in the PS3 that should work, if I am correct. Don't forget to set the PS3 back to optical for audio output and select bitstream on the optical output. The PS3 only output to either the HDMI or optical not both at the same time.

PS3 games that are Dolby Digital are also 640Kbps (at least the onse I have tried).

Other receivers/Preamps have this 640Kbps DD bug as well.
