I'm with deadhead on this, ie. with my old eyes I saw absolutely no difference between HDMI and Component connections with our 50 inch Panasonic plasma HDTV.
Bottom line to me is that it comes down to your eye sight and how you perceive the resultant picture...
Like him I prefer HDMI to minimize the cabling between the HDTV, the Cox supplied SA 8300HD set-top-box and a Toshiba DVD player. In our case I run two HDMI cables, an external antenna coax and a power cable through wiremold to the TV. The wiremold is painted to match the wall color.
