How 1024x768 42" plasmas achieve a 16:9 aspect ratio is because they do not use square (all 4 sides even length) but rather use rectangular (horizontal sides are longer) pixels to achieve this 16:9 aspect ratio with a 4:3 resolution. It is harder to notice with moving pictures so most don't notice this, but it is easier to see with a computer screen text that doesn't move.
