Slight correction on this... Sony has mandated that all games (disc based) be released on Blu-Ray. Regardless of the actual filesize. So going the route of having a non BD PS3 is not actually possible. That would leave a HUGE (albeit not big enough) catalog of games that simply would not play on such a device.
