I am not sure about your particular TV, but I know with my Toshiba the only way to get audio out of the TV's output is when the input is the ATSC or QAM tuner. Audio from the HDMI will not be passed out the digital audio out of the TV. I believe this is standard, but again I am not sure about your TV.

This is a common problem/shortcoming of some receivers. There are plenty of other receivers out there that do process the audio over HDMI and send it to the speakers of your system.
