Default DVI to HDMI connection

Just read your info on this and it relates to a problem Im having now.

New WD-52525 Mitsubishi, with HD Scientific Atlanta cable box. I bought monster cable (gold-is it worth it?) to connect DVI from Cable box to HDMI input on TV. When I turn on tv and box (or box then TV-it doesnt make a difference what order) I hear my audio from tv (analog lines are also connected) but screen is white snow-no signal at all.

If I unplug HDMI connection on TV and replug in while all are powered up, the picture comes in perfect and all is good-until I turn it back off.

Twice I have managed to come up with a message on my TV at start up (before I could do the unplug thing) that told me "Your HDTV is not HDCP compatible...."

any ideas why Im having problems, Is it a DVI-I vs DVI-d problem youve discussed? THe cords fit fine into connections......?
