No, upscaling to 720p can be very good. If you are happy with the display for true HD sources like Blu-ray, it should be adequate for faux HD like upscaled DVD. If you have other upscaling DVD players that do a good job in your opinion, your display is either not calibrated well for this particular player or it doesn't do a very good job in your opinion. If you don't have another upscaling DVD player you find superior, I think it is likely your expectations for upscaled DVD are too high. I haven't seen the BD-1500 and can't comment on it, but I have seen the BD-1000 and BD-1200 and several Samsung DVD players and think the company does a good job with upscaling. Upscaled DVD doesn't compare well to Blu-ray in my opinion and that is regardless of player or display.
