Default How to get HD and/or DVR thru Comcast without paying the $29.50 fee

It may vary from region to region, but here in the metro Atlanta area, Comcast charges a one-time fee of $29.50 for HD or DVR "installation" when you set up new service. This is in addition to the monthy $7/14 charge for HD/DVR service, and it is in addition to the $25.00 regular installation charge. Basically, it is an extra $30 to have the technician take a HD or DVR box out of the van instead of an SD box, and it is completely ridiculous.

However, you don't have to pay it. Instead of ordering HD or DVR when you place your order, just order your regular level of TV programming. The technician will come out and install everything with the standard SD box. As soon as he leaves, go to any Comcast payment center with the SD box and remote and tell them you want to swap it out for an HD or DVR box. They will exchange the boxes, and you will not be charged the $29.50 bogus "installation" fee.

Enjoy!
