What brand/model STB do you have? You might want to try setting up the cable box to upconvert 480i to 480p and use the pass-through setting if you have a Scientific Atlanta cable box. I did this with mine and the SD PQ was better AND the brightness didn't change when going from HD channels to SD channels anymore. I hated changing the inputs to get better PQ with the SD connections. Now I have the best of both worlds and the family doesn't have to play around with inputs on the TV. It is worth a shot, but "your mileage may vary" because of the TV & cable service.
