Where is this information from? I know plenty of LCD (and plasma) failures, as I deal with them on almost a daily basis.
Panasonic was recently rated as the most reliable set at less than 2% failure rate. Sony LCD were 3-4%, others slightly higher. This was from Consumer Reports, so take that for what it's worth.
