I think if the protective layer is 1/6th the thickness of existing DVDs they are going to scratch quite easily and be useless. My guess, (just a guess), is if they come out with BOTH formats, the Blu-Ray will prove to NOT LAST in everyday use and the war will end in about a year when everyone sees how fragile they are.

However, this is going to be yet another factor that will push the price of BR technology even higher, which is an ever-increasing problem that those manufacturers are going to have to try to overcome.
