I bought an HLN617W Samsung DLP 61" in July of 2004. I was using Voom satellite as my main DVI source with a Sony DVD on Component 1 and a Radio Shack antenna for analog OTA.
At first I noticed the lip sync issue with OTA which was not a problem as I only used it during thunderstorms when the satellite was down.
A few months in, I noticed it on Voom satellite and searched the web and noticed it was a known problem. Reported it to Samsung and the immediately knew what I was talking about and put me in touch with the local tech. Local tech replaced a board set (took him two trips to do it) and it fixed the satellite input but not OTA. Let it slide.
Voom went out of business and I switched to TW Cable. Problem reappeared. When initially wired up to HD Cable STB, the cable guy couldn't use the DVI input and eventually connected the HD Cable STB to Component 3.
Called Samsung and reported problem again and referred to same local tech who wanted to come out and replace the same board. I called them back and they agreed to come out later this week to tweak some settings instead.
In the mean time I bought an HD Upconverting DVD with a DVI output and moved the HD Cable to Component 1 and noticed that lip sync issue was better, but not completely eliminated.
I'm going to let the local tech come out this week and make his tweaks to see if they make a difference.
I too would hate that idea that such an expensive set with such a great picture has an inherent design problem with audio syncronization.
