Sounds like your resolution is not set for a HDTV on the second monitor. Try 1280x720 @ 60 Hz if you have that selection.
The reason why those first pages display is they are at 640x480 @ 60 Hz and later in the boot up the set resolution is switched in.
Many HDTVs will shut off sound when they don't receive a useable signal.
