Awesome thoughts by Andie. These comments are right on the money. Parts availability and economics of repairing all video products is a serious consideration. Fact is most of the parts will not be available on these units in the near future. What's worse many are manufactured in China, so reliability will not improve will decreasing prices.

Although it goes against all the 'expert' advice, I recommend buying an extended warranty direct from the source, not from the retailer. Try squaretrade or thewarrantygroupdirect. Both of these companies have legitimate fully insured warranty programs that provide an awesome price point and real customer service.

The Warranty Group is the longest standing company in this business now for over 40 years. They are the guys who provide the programs to retailers like Circuit City and today will sell a warranty direct at less than 1/2 the cost.

Yes, technology is advancing, but so are the challenges to ownership and enjoying your purchase over the long haul.
