I'd like to see how much it would cost for you to get a Sony, Samsung, Etc... fixed after the warranty is up. I bet it is not cheap to have in home service come out. Then it depends on who you get to fix it. It has been my experience over the last couple of years, with all of the new technology, that it is very hard to find anyone who knows what the hell is going on with any of these products. Just try and call a company for a little tech support. 10 minutes worth of menu's, and then 10 to 20 minutes on hold, only to speak with someone who doesn't speak English very well, and who has no knowledge of the product or problem you are having. I had a problem with a dryer that I bought, still under warranty, and had to have 3 different techs out. Finally 3rd was a good tech, and traced it to a faulty wire. What if I were flipping the bill for the other guys. One even tried a new part but that didn't work. Would I have to pay for that out of warranty?
I bought my Vizio from Sam's Club, and bought the 3 year extended warranty for $79. That = 4 years of coverage with the 1 year vizio warranty. If it breaks after 4 years, I will be able to buy a new T.V. for less than it would take to fix a Sony, Samsung, Vizio or any other flat panel. In 4 years, it will probably be 3D or 10000P viewing anyway. A 42" 720P set will be obsolete, or very cheap. Thats why I figure it is almost worthless to shell out the extra cash. There is always something better coming around the corner anyway.
