If the "protection" message is coming from your audio system, I think it's trying to tell you it shut itself down to protect itself.

Either you have too great a load on the audio outputs (too many speakers, speaker impedance too low), too much heat build up from lack of ventilation or there is a fault in the output amplifier.

It is common for audio systems to switch to standby if they sense too much heat, too great a current drain, to low an output voltage or improper DC levels.

Check the receiver manual for possible causes of the "protection" message and possible remedies.
