Wrong both output 1080p resolution, a few older and lower model HD DVD models only do 1080i but if you have a 1080p flat panel it will de-interlace the signal to 1080p anyway.

So you would be able to see the highest resolution with either one of the formats.

But I would still suggest you wait until 1.1 spec Blu-Ray players are available otherwise they won't be able to show you all the features of the new Blu-ray discs and possibly not be able to play them at all (according to Denon).
