You should try another device with an HDMI cable to just be sure there is no problem with the HDMI input on your TV. Then try another HDMI cable, maybe the one you have is defective.
As Bill says, sometimes there is a problem with Samsung and HDMI, but not as bad as no signal at all. And your thought that the box may have been damaged by the other tv is possible.
At this point it could be any of the above. I'd try the things I mentioned then at least you'll be able to know which is the defective part.
PS: I use component cables with my HDTV and like the picture better. But you should be able to use what you like.
