I'm not a warranty person in general. Even Consumer Reports recommends not getting one, except for expensive and new technologies, ie-digital televisions. I read the print on my BB warranty and it includes bulb replacement. I would definitely get one. And use the yearly free maintenance just to make sure you're getting optimal performance. My BB will send a guy out for free. So the most that will cost is something cold to drink and a friendly smile.
In regards to BB giving another poster a hard time for returning items, but I've never had a problem. Earlier this month I had the receiver in the garage repaired 16 days before it expired. No problems. Not only that, but I mentioned my computer is doing something a little odd and the guy told me to bring it in for a free diagnostic eventhough I didn't buy it there. Maybe the customer service in southern CA is different due to the customers being atypical when compared to the rest of the country.
