There are far more people with Broadband connections than there are with HDTVs.
Predictions for 2010 are that 84 million homes in the US will have either DSL or cable. Predictions for 2008 will be 104 million homes in the US with an HDTV. Broadband penetration stateside is lacky at best. One reason for this is that many homes are rural. No cable and DSL is simply not feasible. Satellite tv is very real and a strong contender against cable. But satellite BB is virtually non-existent. In essence - if everybody that has HDTV went out today and purchased an ethernet enabled HD player - roughly 25% would not be able to hook them up to receive "valuable" downloads. Or iffy firmware upgrades.
