I buy all of my high-tech gear online because the prices are so much better (even with shipping).

That all changed yesterday, however. Last week I was planning to buy a Mitsubishi 52525 high-def TV from an online retailer for about $2600.00. The local Best Buy had the set for 2700.00 (+ tax) so I figured I would be getting a pretty good deal.

Last night I decided to take one more look at the set, and to my surprise Best Buy had it on sale for $2600.00. PLUS, there was a $500.00 rebate, effectively bringing the price down to $2100.00. While I was standing there feeling lucky, four adults came in and started complaining that they had seen this same set for $1999.00 a few days earlier. (Probably a mistake.) I jokingly chimed in that I had seen that price, too. The salesman headed off to check on a few things and when he came back he announced, "We have three of these in the warehouse. You both can have them for $1999.99." We both said, "Hell, yes!"

We tend to have the TV on for at least 16 hours a day, so I picked up Best Buy's EXCELLENT service plan. They will replace our bulbs for free for the next four years. And if they have to come out more than four times they will bring us a new TV!

Shopping local was definitely the best way to go in this case!
