It all depends on how they're set up in the shop.
I've seen the Panasonic PX70 looking rubbish (viewed at Panasonic main dealer!!) but yesterday I went down to Curry's (UK Chain Store) and the PX70 was the best looking tv there and the Pioneer 427 (probably the best plasma prior to 428 / 508 series) looked the worst tv in the shop!!!
You're unlikely to go far wrong with the 508 Pioneer as all the professional reviewers are currently raving about the set with most saying its the best plasma picture ever.
Note: LCD's often look better in the shop at 1st glance because their brightness is much higher and usually maxxed for display. However, a careful look usually shows the subtler colours and detail such as faces are overblown and when properly adjusted at home you're unlikely to see a much different picture to the plasma with the plasma producing more natural colours and tones. LCD's look great with cartoons but plasma's definately look better with movies in my opinion.
Panasonics are good tv's and up there with Pioneer as probably the best 2 plasma manufacturers. Its personal but personally I prefer Pioneer over Panasonic for picture, although Pioneer tend to be expensive and are lagging behind Panasonic with native 1080P sets although there are some native 1080P's coming out in the 50" size range (new models out soon over the next month or so).
