JVC AV-27S776 Linearity
I had been searching for a replacement 27" CRT tv for some time.
Some of my requirements were NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners and rear
panel connection for at least 3 devices. Also it had to be locally available.
Most of the available sets missed on some of these.
The JVC met these requirements with a bonus of a flat CRT, HD, and generally superior specs. When I compared the picture with other 27"
CRT sets at a local retailer, the JVC had a superior picture on analog
source.
Recently a local retailer offered this tv at a very good price, probably discontinued and closeout. I bought.
Initially there was a funny feeling about the picture when a scene was panned. Later we saw that a crawler changed as it moved across the
screen, wider on the right, narrower in the center and wider on the left. I found a 7-bar color test pattern. The center bar was the smallest with each further bar getting wider. The horizontal overscan
seemed to be excessive. I contacted the retailer and their tech came and looked at it and said he would get back with me. His answer was that JVC said this was normal and he couldn't do anything about it.
I sent an email to JVC Customer Support describing the problem.
I got a non-answer thanking me for my correspondence and asking
me to email if I have any other problems.
I also contacted the official JVC Service in the area and have not gotten a reply. When I again bugged the retailer, their only reply was
JVC tech says this is normal and they would allow me to choose another tv, JVC or other brand. Another JVC model has the same problem and other brands are much inferior. They did give me an 800 number for JVC tech. I made contact one time but have not been able to get any call back from them.
Has anyone seen this type of problem on JVC crt sets?
Except for this problem, I am quite satisfied with the picture and the features on this set. I may have to live with this, but I'd like to find a fix or at least an improvement.
