Not to pull this thread back on topic, but...

I observed the same thing at the Best Buys around here. The HD-DVDs of 300 were completely sold out, and they still had at least three dozen Blu-ray copies.

Warner did ship almost twice as many BDs to retailers, and there's no need for anyone to manipulate any numbers to make that appear to have happened. But there's no way for them to know how many copies actually made into the hands of consumers until the stores stock-balance.

Maybe someone who works at Best Buy can fill in some details, but generally in retail, stores get however many copies they ask for, provided there is enough supply, and they use current market data to guess how many of each format that might be. The current market share is about 60:40, so of course those are the proportions retailers asked for, and those are the proportions that Warner shipped. If a product or format doesn't sell at retail, the retailers have the option to send the unsold copies back to the distributor for credit, and they usually have around six months to do that.

So, in reality, we aren't going to have any real numbers for at least six months when the stores send back unsold copies, and they have received one or more additional shipments to replenish depleted stock.
