HD DVD has superior mandatory features such as TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus decoding, persistent storage and networking support for web-enabled features and firmware updating. HD DVD is also region free so you can buy virtually any HD DVD from anywhere in the world and it will play in your HD DVD player.

By the way, the mandatory TrueHD and DD+ decoding is really playing in HD DVD's favor. For example, look at some of the films that are out on both HD DVD and Blu-ray. Releases such as Flags of our Fathers, The Fountain, Dreamgirls, Mission Impossible I, Mission Impossible II, Mission Impossible III, Payback: Straight Up The Director's Cut, Happy Feet, Superman Returns, Babel, Lady in the Water, The Ant Bully, Phantom of the Opera, AND OTHERS have the better soundtrack on the HD DVD version since they have either TrueHD or Dolby Digital Plus @ 1.5 mbps, whereas the Blu-ray version only has Dolby Digital at 640kbps. As for picture quality, I give the slight edge to HD DVD, which is one of the many reasons I decided to support it. To top it all off HD DVD is less expensive to buy than Blu-ray. All things considered, HD DVD is the winning format.

By the way, future titles such as "300" and "Blood Diamond" will have superior extras on the HD DVD version.
