OK then, the problem I'm having is noise in the solid colored areas on the screen. I've bumped the DVD signal back to 1080i so I could adjust the DRC Mode from Mode 1 to Mode 2 (according to the Sony manual). However this doesn't seem to fix the problem. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the medium (DVD) and if I should just have the Oppo display DVDs at 480i. Any suggestions?

There may be some adjustments on the Oppo to maximize picture quality-- however it is unrealistic to expect true/actual HD-DVD quality from an upconverting DVD player. I have an Oppo and I am very pleased with it. Some DVDs truly look very, very close to an actual HD broadcast-- others do not look but just a wee bit better than a standard progressive DVD player.

I assume you are connected with HDMI . . . Do you have the same noise with 720 P output?
