From JVC HD Pro to Canon XL2
Hi there,
I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently shooting both High Def (720p) and Standard Def (more often than not) with the JVC HD-101E.
If you shoot standard def with this camera, it's fine. If you shoot High Def with this camera you need to basically leave the camera rolling as Final Cut Pro is not really compatible with it and you will lose most of your clips if they are short.
The JVC HD101E also has no image stabilization, no auto focus and isn't amazing under low-light conditions. You also have to white balance like mad all the time. It's perfect for filmmaking, but not weddings and events. I'm thinking of getting the Canon XL2 to shoot events like weddings.
It is great under low-light, there is auto focus, image stabilisation, it's a reasonable price, you can change to 24p shooting if you like and you can shoot 16:9 too. I could then use the JVC HD101E as a back-up at events and use it to only shoot High Definition when the need arises.
Question arise, however:
Canon don't have a deck and I have the JVC BR-HD50 deck. I'm also using JVC tapes with the JVC camera. Canon don't have their own tapes (as far as I know), so would ordinary Panasonic or other type of tape stock work with the Canon XL2 and would it be okay to use them with the JVC deck.
At the moment it's a JVC camera, deck and tapestock.
If using the Canon XL2, it'll be a Canon (camera) mixed with Panasonic (or other make of tape) mixed with JVC (deck).
Anybody else here mix their makes?
Does anybody here have any experience with the XL2, maybe they could share it?
