To me, catalog is blah because I'm not going to re-purchase many titles that I already have on DVD. Only a few here and there. Day and Date is huge for me and Blu-ray has a better selection due to their supporting studios.
I've actually stopped buying new releases about 3 years ago because I realize that the $20 movie of today will cost $10 a year from now. Only if my wife wants something would I buy a new release. Of course, it's different with the HD formats because the price difference between new stuff and catalog is often only $4.00 Amazon price, so I will buy new releases if they appeal to me.

But basically everything is new if you've never seen the movie, and there are thousands of good catalog movies I don't have and have never seen. And just because it comes out now doesn't mean it is better.

Anyway, Universal will be releasing quite a few day and date this year.
