Yeah, I think this is why Blu-ray is so much more appealing to me of late. The thing is, who cares if the film was a blockbuster? HD DVD is putting out a lot of films that are very suspect, even the catalogue releases. Sure a lot of them may have been big budget at the time, but my god, some of the titles just universally suck. I mean, Waterworld.... Sure the movie probably has a fan base, but I can think of a 100 other films that more people would want thatn Waterworld. The other thing is, who cares if the film was a Blockbuster? I buy tons of movies that weren't necessarily runaway smash hits.
Even though Blu-ray is coming out with more new release titles than HD DVD, they are still lacking. I love movies, and I'll watch the same movie over and over and over again. I'll go through all the special features, and I'll watch the movie with all the commentaries. I find it all interesting. I probably buy on average 5 movies a month. However, I am still buying like 4 SD DVD's to one HD film because I buy primarily new releases currently.
