Well, here's a possibility:
Knowing that the "research firms" just gather data without regards to the underlying rationale for the data, suppose everybody's saving up to dump a vast load of HD DVD's on the market simultaneously which will:
1) Get them big PR compared to letting them out one-by-one.
2) Absolutely *boggle* the sales data for the research firms.
3) Absolutely silence any arguments about the content disparity between HD DVD and Blu-Ray (it won't matter if the argument doesn't really hold water, who's going to believe someone touting Blu-Ray's content advantage when 100 HD DVD's suddenly appear on the market.
Pretty devious. I like it. Wonder if it's true?
