Default Purchasing and installing the Deep Fringe HD Antenna Prescription

I have been learning a great deal from reading this thread. I appreciate those with experience that are willing to share.

I recently purchased a 32" Proview HDTV with the standard and high definition tuners. I already have an older deep fringe Radio Shack rotored antenna mounted 30' above my roof on a telescoping pole. I has a preamp and amp with about 110 feet of older 75 ohm coax cable. It is not only connected to the new HDTV, but to about 4 other regular TVs in the house. My area code is 95969. I presently receive about 15-20 standard TV stations, depending on the weather from the local area and Sacramento and even sometimes San Francisco. We are at an elevation of about 1700 feet above the Sacramento Valley.

When I attached my new Proview HDTV to the system and worked with my old rotor, at times I was able to detect up to 20 digital channels from 480 dpi to 1080 dpi. My problem comes in locking in the stations. At times I can lock a few of the stations without pixelating --- and the image and sound is just amazing! Unfortunately, this is rare. The weather seems to make a big difference.

From what I have read on this thread, I have come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade my antenna system to the "HD Prescription". I have a few questions.

(1) When mounting the CM 4228 and the Wade-Delhi VIP-306 above the rotor at 30 feet, how are they placed? I assume that I would put the VIP on top with the CM underneath above the rotor? I also assume that since they would weigh about 30 lbs, I would need to add a rotor support bearing (TB-105). Is that reasonable?

(2) I have located all the items needed except for the VIP-306. The distributer listed for California does not seem to know that he is on the Delhi list? Where is a another place where I might get this item at a reasonable price?

(3) I see on this thread some members have some sort of signal strength meter. That might be handy in the setup. What would I look for and where might I find this item?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I hope to pass it on once I learn enough to help others.
