Two things are to blame.
1. A chip error in the Samsung player creating a slightly softer image. This error is set to be corrected in late October. Unfortunitly its nothing major. The improvement the fix will make will be very slight.
2. Most of Sonys early discs were total rush jobs. Underworld Evolution and The Terminator looked good but Fifth Element and House of Flying Daggers are generally considered a mess. Better then even the best DVD but average at best on an HD level. Newer Blu-Ray discs generally are better.
Agreed the King Kong demo looked fantastic I hope the actual HD-DVD looks as good. I want to see the rex fight in high def bad.
