I will probably offend the audiophiles out there, but the problem with most quality speakers that will contend with or surpass the Bose cubes is size and looks. Most of the brands suggested are big and ugly from a woman's point of view. Most women think speakers are to be heard and not seen.
If you have control of the household, there may be plenty of choices. If the wife or an interior decorator has the control, Bose are hard to beat. Only direct size and sound replacements need apply.
