I have a Toshiba HM4694. Got it for Christmas before last, so it is 15 months old. Today, the 3rd lamp failed. The set has about 2400 hours on it. This lamp was installed on Christmas Eve, so it lasted about 3 months, down from the 6 months of the previous 2 lamps.
As I reported previously, "Intech", Toshiba's hired tech reps, sent a fellow to my home several weeks ago to examine my set. He said everything appeared to be normal, so he called Toshiba the next day to ask them what they thought he should do. They told him to tell me to set my lamp back up to "High Power", on the theory that the lamp was not staying hot enough. Well, I did, and now the lamp has failed 3 weeks later. Should I set number 4 to high power? Yes? No? I guess I will....
So, heck, I really have no idea. Really. TO THEIR CREDIT, Toshiba is sending us a 4th lamp! They said it was mostly the "05s" that are having problems. They claim it is just "unheard of" for lamps to be failing as quickly as mine. Readers, please believe me when I say that I am doing nothing outlandish with my DLP. For heaven's sake, with all the problems I have had, I practically tiptoe up to the thing.
Toshiba is at least staying with me, and they just say that if This Lamp, number 4 blows so quickly again, they will send a tech rep out AGAIN. OK, fine, I am not complaining if they are gonna keep replacing the lamps. BUT, yes I would just rather be having a normal experience as I suppose others are. I am having to wait for lamps after each failure. I would actually not mind purchasing a lamp if I felt confident that something was new and improved about it; that some problem with the previous ones had actually been corrected.
When the replacement lamp arrives, I will remove the old one and see if it "shattered" internally or just appears to have the "cloudy" areas inside it like the last one had.
