NO.you will not be able to watch hd channels.you can't watch them thru the coax either.they will show up on the screen but will not be real hd.the built in tuner is only good for over the air channels.the cable box is there tuner,not you're tuner.you can buy a tv that will play hd without the tuner and use the cable box as the tuner.
