I read something about this briefly earlier.

Do you think Toshiba execs have become alcoholics as of late... I keep getting an image of them saying "Son of a b***h!" every time they check the latest tech news, in my head.

NEC was a big backer for Toshiba and their biggest (not including themselves) manufacturer. Now, Sony not only makes money either way, but better believe they will influence (aka hinder) HD-DVD player production.

If Sony is able to lower the price of Blu-ray players to match the cheaper model from Toshiba... Game Over. No ifs, ands, or buts, about it. Sony should be hearing the words "Finish Him"and have someone from their camp provide a $500 BR player, so they can perform their Fatality and get their freakin Flawless Victory already.

At this point, we all as HD fans should be pushing for Sony. Just so we can get this thing over with. The faster we have one winner, the more mainstream the format will become. More movies, more player selection, lower prices (due to internal competition), less compatibility issues, etc.
